Advice On Adapting

It's not always easy or exciting to move to a new town. Sometimes it's scary or depressing. This can be especially true if you're moving because an executive recruiting services firm found your spouse or parent a new job and there's nothing for you to look forward to once you get there. If you allow yourself to stay home and feel this way things will never get any better. You need to get out and make a life for yourself here in Vaughan and make the best of things. Here's how to start.

Have Fun

The first thing you must do is to do something fun and frivolous with your family. This will show everyone that good things are possible here and release happy endorphins that make anger therapy less necessary. Some fun things to do in Vaughan include a visit to Canada's Wonderland theme park, a shopping day at the massive Vaughn Mills mall, or a hike and picnic in the Boyd Conservation Area. Choose whatever you think you or your family would like best.
Meet New People

Encourage everyone to get out there and say hello to the locals. For adults, this might mean going to a local bar to listen to some R&B Hip Hop music or knocking on your neighbour's door. For kids it means going to school. Taking the dog for a walk in a public space like a park is a great way to meet people since they will want to pat your dog. The key here is to interact. This means saying hello, asking their names, and making chit chat about work, weather, or what's going on in the city, even if you have to instigate the conversation.

Get Involved

It's important that you feel like you are a part of the city you call home. Therefore integrating yourself into the community should be your next step. Kids at school should join some clubs or sports teams. Adults should get a job, even if it's only part time, offer to speak about sheet metal shear or your area of expertise at your child's school, or take some classes or join a club at the local community center.

Refill Your Contacts

Your old life was comfortable because you had an Oakville dentist, a doctor, a babysitter, all on standby if you needed them. In Vaughan you'll need all new ones, but asking neighbors and looking through the yellow pages should make it fairly easy to do so.
